TJC was formed at Oberlin College, where the band led worship at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio. As the original band members migrated to the east coast for graduate school, they connected with other musicians at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, where the project flourished. The group continued to grow and musically develop in New Haven, CT, having opportunities to write and produce services for a multitude of churches in New England, the National Council of Churches, the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, Trinity Wall Street, New England Lutheran Synod, and St. Paul’s Chapel in NYC. TJC has led workshops and worship services around the country, offered weekly outreach programs for local youth, and has given concert-talks on jazz worship at Yale, Cambridge, and Oxford Universities, among other institutions. We are open to any and all forms of exploring jazz worship and love to learn from the diverse and profound communities that invite us to share our music.
